The current opportunity at Hai Hospitality is for the role of Sushi Chef, a pivotal position within the culinary team that plays a significant part in enriching the overall dining experience for guests. Sushi Chefs at Hai Hospitality are entrusted with mastering the art of sushi preparation, working closely with skilled chef teams to perfect sushi techniques and maintain the highest standards of food quality and presentation. This role entails more than just food preparation; it includes engaging with guests at the sushi bar, taking and explaining orders, and contributing to a vibrant guest experience. As a Sushi Chef, you will have the opportunity to learn and rotate through various sushi stations, gain expertise in waste reduction and proper product handling, and collaborate in the creation of dishes featured on both the specials and core menu. The role is hourly and offers an attractive compensation package with an average earning of $25 per hour including tips, plus a sign-on bonus of $1,250 payable after completing 90 days of training.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with guests and other employees
  • Detect and identify safety issues, and comply with safety guidelines and standards
  • Lift and carry trays, dishes, equipment, and goods up to 50 lbs, stock inventory, and perform restocking duties
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, stoop, and reach to access various areas and items
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Ability to work in a variety of temperatures, both hot and cold
  • Lift, push, or pull objects such as tables and chairs to reconfigure seating arrangements
  • Ability to use kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as ovens, grills, and knives
  • Maintain a neat and organized workspace, including proper storage of supplies and cleaning of surfaces
  • Move quickly and efficiently to respond to customer needs
  • Ability to work in close proximity to coworkers in a crowded kitchen or serving area
  • Tolerate exposure to potential allergens and food odors
  • Maintain a professional and hygienic appearance, including proper uniform and personal grooming

Job Duties

  • Acquaint yourself with our menu, current specials, and Japanese cuisine
  • Learn and perfect your sushi techniques under the guidance of our skilled Chef teams
  • Understand proper handling and waste reduction of product
  • Interact with guests at the sushi bar, take orders, explain dishes, and cultivate an amazing experience for yourself and the guest
  • Learn our various sushi stations and progress as your knowledge and skills grows
  • Collaborate with our teams to create dishes that will be showcased on our specials page and core menu
