Job Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized surgical technologist program
  • Ability to assist surgeons in sterile surgical environment
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and sterilization protocols

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must not operate vehicles for assigned business purposes

Job Duties

  • Assist surgeons at the sterile field with instruments needed for each procedure
  • Provide routine maintenance, cleaning, sterilization, and management of equipment and prostheses
  • Maintain current knowledge of procedures and equipment/instruments
  • Implement patient care activities according to standards of care and practice
  • Coordinate the use of equipment based on operating room schedule and patient needs
  • Utilize computer information management systems to facilitate patient care
  • Organize and reprioritize work based on patient needs and unit requirements
  • Support compliance with hospital accreditation, state licensure, and other external accrediting agency requirements
  • Review unit and department communication to maintain current job knowledge
  • Identify patients at risk for injury and participate in instituting preventive measures
  • Adhere to age appropriate protocols for patient safety
  • Follow infection control policies and procedures
  • Complete employee accident and incident reports
  • Report environmental safety hazards and damaged equipment
  • Respond to patient monitor alarms timely
  • Ensure emergency readiness and initiate timely emergency measures
  • Conserve hospital resources
  • Contribute to accurate capture of patient charges and revenue generation
