Job Description
The University Health System Cafeteria/Food Service Department is a pivotal part of the university's commitment to providing high-quality food service to its diverse community, including staff, students, and visitors. Renowned for its dedication to excellence and compliance, the department plays a critical role in ensuring that all food preparation and service not only meets but exceeds industry standards. As an essential service provider within a large institutional environment, the food service team is tasked with maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient dining experience for all guests. The department's focus on health, safety, and exceptional customer service establishes a standard that aligns with the university's broader mission of fostering a healthy and productive campus atmosphere.
This position focuses on managing, supervising, and coordinating various activities within the Food Service Department of the University Health System Cafeteria. The role involves hands-on participation, including assisting with the preparation, assembly, and service of meals, demonstrating a strong commitment to teamwork and operational efficiency. A significant part of the role includes the compilation and maintenance of data required for variance and yearly budget reports, demonstrating the necessity for both culinary expertise and strong administrative skills. Beyond the operational and financial aspects, the role demands strict adherence to all departmental and regulatory policies, guidelines, and regulations, underscoring the importance of compliance within the health and food service industry.
This management role requires a dynamic individual who not only excels in food production and retail food operations but also in leadership—ensuring the competent, efficient, and timely performance of all assigned duties and assignments within the food service department. Maintaining excellent guest, customer, professional, and public relations is crucial, reflecting the essential nature of interpersonal skills in this supervisory role. Successful candidates will be responsible for fostering a productive and positive work environment while ensuring that all food service activities comply with the highest standards of quality and safety.
This position is ideal for professionals with significant experience in food service operations, particularly those with a background in retail food operations, food production, or patient food service. Preference is given to candidates who have held supervisory or management roles within the food service sector and who possess relevant certifications such as those from recognized culinary arts institutions or food service management programs. Maintaining current Serve Safe Certification and any other necessary registrations or licenses is mandatory to ensure both compliance and expertise in the role. This comprehensive blend of management, culinary skill, and regulatory knowledge is key to the successful operation of the University Health System Cafeteria, supporting its mission to provide nutritious, safe, and enjoyable meals to its community throughout the year.
