The University Health System Cafeteria/Food Service Department is a vital part of the healthcare environment, dedicated to providing high-quality food services to patients, staff, and visitors. The Food Service Manager position is a key leadership role responsible for managing, supervising, and coordinating day-to-day activities within the Food Service Department. The manager plays an integral part in overseeing food preparation, assembly, and service of meals, ensuring these duties are carried out competently, efficiently, and within scheduled timelines. This role also includes compiling and maintaining vital data for variance tracking and annual budget reports, helping the department align financial goals with operational objectives.
An essential aspect of this position is strict adherence to the Food Service Department’s policies, as well as regulatory agency guidelines and regulations. The manager is tasked with maintaining excellent guest, customer, professional, and public relations, which directly impacts the department's reputation and service quality. This role requires a leader who is not only skilled in food service operations but also excels in managing people and processes to foster a productive and customer-focused workplace environment.
With a preferred background of five years in retail food operations, food production, or patient food service, along with at least three years of supervisory or managerial experience in a food service setting, the ideal candidate is well-prepared to address the complexities and demands of the health system's food services. Certification from a recognized culinary arts institution or in food preparation or food service management adds further value, enhancing the individual's expertise and ability to lead effectively.
Additionally, maintaining a current Serve Safe Certification and any necessary licensures is mandatory for this role. This ensures that all food handling and safety standards are upheld consistently, protecting the health and well-being of those served by the department. Job Qualifications
