Job Description
Steve & Kate's Camp is a pioneering organization dedicated to self-directed learning and fostering creativity among children aged 4 to 12. Located at 713 Washington St., Hoboken, NJ 07030, the camp operates from June 22, 2026, to August 21, 2026, with additional days allocated for setup, breakdown, and orientation. The camp runs daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, with some variability in shifts to meet operational needs. Steve & Kate's Camp is celebrated for its innovative approach that empowers kids to make decisions for themselves, encouraging independence, imagination, and collaborative play. The camp's culture emphasizes a calm, nurturing environment where both staff and campers are motivated to grow, learn, and have fun together.
The Food Operations Staff position at Steve & Kate's Camp is a unique opportunity for individuals who enjoy organization, multitasking, and engaging with children and coworkers without necessarily having culinary expertise. This role focuses on preparing and serving snacks and lunches, managing food orders, and maintaining all kitchen and food service areas with excellent hygiene standards. The hourly wage ranges from $18.25 to $20.75, dependent on experience and other factors, offering competitive compensation in the camp industry.
As a Food Ops staff member, you will develop and refine your organizational skills by managing food inventory and ensuring that all food-related spaces and equipment remain clean and sanitary. The role requires maintaining a systematic and efficient environment for meal service in a dynamic camp setting. While the camp provides all entrees fully prepared, your responsibilities will center on preparation for service and cleanup. You will also have the chance to interact with campers, staff, and parents, enriching your communication skills and working as part of a committed and friendly team.
In addition to food service, you will actively supervise campers, manage food allergies and dietary restrictions, and record any significant incidents or injuries. Your role is vital to maintaining a safe, clean, and enjoyable camp environment. The camp promotes a culture of inclusivity, patience, and enthusiasm, expecting staff members to remain calm under pressure and maintain a nurturing demeanor. The position offers a supportive training and development program to prepare you for success on your first day and throughout the camp season.
Candidates well suited for this role are organized multitaskers who value cleanliness, punctuality, and teamwork. A love of food and enthusiasm for working with energetic children ages 4 to 12 is essential, as is the physical stamina to keep pace with young campers and manage lifting tasks up to 30 to 40 pounds. Whether you are an experienced food service worker or new to the field, this role promises a rewarding and fun summer experience in a collaborative camp community that values innovation and self-directed learning.
