The manager is responsible for preparing scheduled monthly menu selections with minimal assistance and ensuring strict compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) health and safety requirements every day. This responsibility ensures that every meal served is safe, nutritious, and meets the high standards set by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

In addition to meal preparation, the Cafeteria Manager oversees weekly food and supply orders, verifying that all incoming products meet quality standards and contractual obligations. They work closely with satellite programs to maintain accurate meal counts and ensure contractual guidelines are followed precisely. The role entails managing employees, directing training to ensure compliance with state nutrition guidelines, and balancing daily cash sales accurately through competent computer use.
