This full-time, non-management position located in New York at Two East 55th Street at Fifth Avenue offers an opportunity to be part of a reputable team dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the food and beverage operations. The role focuses on the operation and upkeep of cleaning equipment and tools such as dishwashing machines, hand-washing stations, pot scrubbing areas, and waste compactors. Daily responsibilities include washing and sanitizing kitchen and storage areas, tables, utensils, knives, and equipment to ensure a spotless environment essential for food safety and guest satisfaction.

Further duties involve receiving deliveries, properly storing perishable goods, and rotating inventory to maintain freshness and comply with health regulations. The role requires strict adherence to company safety policies, reporting of hazards or accidents, and completion of required safety training and certifications. Employees in this position contribute significantly to the smooth running of the kitchen by ensuring clean dishes are correctly stored and dirty items are efficiently returned for cleaning. The job also involves manual handling tasks such as moving objects up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and performing ergonomic motions including reaching, bending, and lifting.

Job Duties

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools including dishwashing machine and hand-washing stations
  • Wash and disinfect kitchen and storage areas, tables, utensils, knives, and equipment
  • Receive deliveries and properly store perishable products ensuring stock rotation
  • Ensure clean dishes are stored in appropriate areas
  • Use chemical detergents, disinfectants, and rinsing agents to wash dishes using a three-compartment sink
  • Inspect and stack clean items and send back dirty items for re-washing
  • Classify, soak, and wash/re-wash cutlery
  • Empty trash bins and maintain garbage storage areas
  • Clean and mop assigned department areas
  • Break down cardboard boxes and place recyclables in respective containers
  • Comply with company safety policies and report accidents and hazards
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members
  • Support team to meet common goals
  • Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, sitting, walking, bending, and reaching.
