Job Description

Utah Valley University (UVU) Dining Services is a vital part of the university's campus life, committed to providing exceptional catering and dining experiences to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. As a well-established institution in the higher education sector, UVU is known for its dedication to fostering a supportive learning environment and maintaining high standards across all service areas, including dining and catering. Located in Orem, Utah, UVU Dining Services plays an essential role in ensuring the smooth operation of daily food services and special event catering, enabling the campus community to enjoy nutritious and delicious meals in a hygienic, efficient, and welcoming setting. This department focuses not only on food preparation but also on maintaining cleanliness, safety, and excellent customer service throughout all its operations.

The role currently open at UVU Dining Services is a part-time dishwasher position specifically assisting with Catering Services’ dishwasher duties. This student worker role provides an excellent opportunity for current UVU students to gain valuable work experience within a professional dining services environment while balancing their studies. The dishwasher position offers two shift options: an early morning shift from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm or an afternoon/evening shift from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This flexibility allows student employees to select shift times that best fit their academic schedules. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the cleanliness and proper care of dishware, utensils, and kitchen equipment used in day-to-day dining and catering operations. Alongside critical sanitation tasks, the dishwasher will play a key role in sustaining the overall hygiene and operational efficiency of the catering dishroom and laundry areas.

Employees in this role are expected to rigorously follow safety and cleaning procedures to meet UVU’s high standards for health and sanitation. This includes proper use of sinks, cleaning chemicals, and equipment, alongside maintaining floors and surfaces within the dishroom. Beyond cleanliness, student workers need to demonstrate reliability by arriving on time in clean uniforms and adhering to their supervisors’ directions. Excellent interpersonal skills are required, as employees must maintain a friendly and helpful attitude while working collaboratively with the team. This job offers students a valuable chance to develop practical skills such as communication, problem-solving, and time management. The experience can be an important stepping stone for students interested in roles within hospitality, food service management, or other customer-focused industries. Moreover, working within a university environment enhances one’s understanding of organizational operations, teamwork, and workplace professionalism. UVU Dining Services is also committed to equal employment opportunity, ensuring a fair and respectful workplace free from discrimination based on race, gender, age, disability, or other protected statuses as mandated by federal and state laws. This position is ideal for students looking for meaningful campus employment that supports both their educational goals and professional development.
