The role of the Steward/Dishwasher at Saks Global is pivotal in maintaining the operational integrity and food safety standards within the kitchen environment. This is a critical back-of-house position that ensures all dishware, glassware, utensils, and culinary tools are meticulously cleaned, sanitized, and prepared for seamless service. The Steward/Dishwasher supports the culinary and service teams by upholding high standards of cleanliness and organization, directly contributing to the delivery of a luxury dining experience that Saks Global guests expect. This role demands quick, efficient handling of dishwashing duties along with strict adherence to sanitation protocols, making it essential for the smooth operation of kitchen workflows.

In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining an impeccably clean, organized, and sanitary environment across dishwashing stations, trash areas, and kitchen floors. You will operate and maintain commercial dishwashing machines with an emphasis on safety and effectiveness, including checking chemical levels and temperature standards daily, as well as promptly reporting any equipment issues. Your duties will extend to managing trash and recycling receptacles, ensuring kitchen floors are free of spills and debris to prevent hazards, and assisting the culinary team with basic food prep and deep cleaning tasks when needed.

This role requires a professional and collaborative approach, including fostering positive working relationships with kitchen staff and adhering to Saks Global's luxury grooming and hygiene standards. Punctuality, integrity in scheduling, proper uniform adherence, and compliance with health and sanitation standards are integral to this position. While prior experience in stewarding, dishwashing, or utility roles in a high-volume or upscale restaurant environment is preferred, it is not mandatory, as dedication, efficiency, and teamwork are highly valued.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in dishwashing or stewarding preferred but not required
  • Ability to maintain high operational standards and work quickly and safely
  • Capability to handle physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Commitment to maintaining personal hygiene and professional appearance
  • Adherence to company health and sanitation policies
  • Ability to operate commercial dishwashing equipment and maintain chemical safety

Job Qualifications

  • Previous stewarding, dishwashing, or utility experience in high-volume restaurant or upscale hospitality environment preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Highly motivated and results-driven under high-pressure, fast-paced conditions
  • Positive, collaborative team mindset
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk on wet surfaces, bend, climb stairs, and lift up to 35 pounds
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Maintain a swift and steady pace for washing, sanitizing, and restocking all pots, pans, culinary dishes, flatware, and glassware
  • Exercise extreme caution when handling delicate breakables such as fine china and crystal glassware
  • Operate and maintain commercial dishwashing machine including checking chemical levels and temperature
  • Organize stewarding area with proper sanitation stations and soaking buckets
  • Monitor and clean kitchen floors to prevent slips and hazards
  • Manage kitchen trash and recycling receptacles, replacing liners promptly
  • Assist culinary team with basic food preparation and deep cleaning tasks
