The position of Dishwasher / Steward at Henderson Sport & Social is an essential role within the hospitality team, dedicated to maintaining a clean, sanitary, and efficient kitchen environment. This role is critical for supporting food production and guest service by ensuring that dishes, kitchenware, barware, and cooking equipment are consistently cleaned and sanitized. As the foundation of kitchen efficiency, the steward ensures that clean equipment and organized workspaces are always available to meet the demands of the busy kitchen.

Success in this role means maintaining a spotless kitchen, supporting team members through effective communication and teamwork, and adhering to health and safety standards that meet or exceed health department requirements. The steward’s responsibilities extend to identifying and reporting maintenance or safety issues promptly, thereby contributing to the smooth operation of the kitchen.

This part-time, non-exempt position reports directly to the Food & Beverage Director and Executive Chef. It requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events, reflecting the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the hospitality industry. This role also offers opportunities for growth, welcoming candidates interested in advancing to positions such as Prep Cook or other kitchen roles.

Physical demands are an important consideration in this position. Candidates must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods, lifting heavy items up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Working safely under hot, wet, and fast-paced kitchen conditions is essential.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age

  • Previous restaurant or kitchen experience preferred
  • Knowledge of sanitation and food safety practices

Job Duties

  • Operate the dish machine and properly wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, glassware, cookware, utensils, kitchen equipment, and bar equipment
  • Properly organize and store clean dishes, cookware, utensils, kitchen equipment, and smallwares
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of both the kitchen and bar dish areas
  • Wash pots, pans, kitchen equipment, and floor mats as needed
  • Empty trash and recycling, sweep and mop floors, clean floor drains, and maintain a safe work environment
  • Assist with organizing storage areas, receiving deliveries, rotating stock, and putting away supplies
  • Assist prep cooks and line cooks with basic food preparation, including washing produce
  • Monitor chemical levels and notify leadership when supplies require replenishment
  • Report broken equipment, dish machines, racks, leaks, or safety concerns promptly
  • Remain productive during slower periods by assisting kitchen team members
  • Complete opening, closing, cleaning, and additional duties as assigned
