The role of Senior Location Safety Manager within First Student's school bus operations is a pivotal leadership position focused on maintaining and enhancing safety protocols at large school bus stations or several mid-sized locations. Offering a competitive annual salary of $75,000, this role is based in N Charleston, SC, and encompasses responsibility for overseeing all aspects of compliance with safety regulations such as DOT, FMCSA, FTA, and OSHA, while nurturing a culture that prioritizes safety excellence among drivers, staff, students, and the community.

The Senior Safety Manager will lead and coordinate complex safety programs including driver hiring processes which cover interviews, background checks, DOT physicals, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing to uphold strict safety standards. They will manage and support ongoing training initiatives, recertification efforts, and performance evaluations that ensure drivers remain compliant and well-prepared to perform their duties safely. The position involves conducting thorough investigations into safety incidents, determining preventability, and implementing coaching techniques to enhance driver performance and reduce risk incidents.

Additionally, this leader will monitor driver behavior using advanced technology such as telematics and conduct road evaluations to ensure adherence to safety procedures. Analyzing safety data trends is key to developing actionable plans aimed at improving overall safety outcomes. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of safety management experience
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, FTA, OSHA, and related safety regulations
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety/telematics systems
  • Valid driver's license
