Job Description
American River College (ARC) is a well-established institution within the Los Rios Community College District, located in Sacramento, California. It serves a diverse student body and commits to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment. ARC is known for its comprehensive academic programs, community engagement, and dedication to equity and inclusion across all its operations. The college facilities are utilized not only for academic purposes but also for community events, external rentals, and other miscellaneous activities in need of efficient coordination and management.
The Los Rios Community College District is seeking to hire a part-time, temporary Events Coordinator to support its Campus Operations Department at American River College. This role is essential for the smooth management of events and external facility rentals on campus. The position reports directly to the Operations Director and/or Supervisor and includes a broad range of responsibilities that ensure a positive visitor experience and compliance with campus policies. The temporary role is scheduled to begin on or about July 7, 2026, with hourly wages ranging from $24.00 to $49.99. Work hours and schedules will be determined based on the needs of the college, with the position lasting no more than 135 days or 960 hours within a fiscal year.
This role demands a strong equity mindset, requiring the coordinator to continuously assess and engage in equity-focused discussions around policy and procedural practices. Duties involve acting as the official liaison for visiting teams, officials, emergency personnel, media, community groups, and other organizations utilizing ARC facilities. The coordinator is responsible for event setup—including unlocking and securing facilities—and enforcing compliance with facility use permits and rules. The position also includes various other operational duties critical to event success, such as filing, report preparation, equipment operation, concessions oversight, parking management, ushering, and scoreboard operation. Flexibility and the ability to perform physically demanding labor under varied weather conditions are essential.
The Events Coordinator role requires strong customer service skills and effective communication abilities, along with a working knowledge of English grammar and arithmetic to fulfill reporting and operational needs effectively. The position also necessitates a valid California driver’s license, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to handle manual labor tasks such as lifting heavy objects, maneuvering equipment, and working with tools and chemicals safely. The college values applicants who demonstrate an equity-minded focus with sensitivity toward the diverse backgrounds of community college students and staff, fostering an inclusive environment.
Overall, this temporary, part-time role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in event coordination within a higher education setting, with competitive pay and the chance to contribute meaningfully to community engagement through event support at American River College.
