Job Description
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a premier federal law enforcement agency dedicated to protecting the United States from threats to national security, enforcing federal laws, and upholding justice. Established over a century ago, the FBI has evolved into a sophisticated, multifaceted organization that combines traditional investigative techniques with cutting-edge technology and scientific expertise. The Bureau offers a dynamic and challenging work environment where professionals can contribute to some of the most important investigations related to crime, terrorism, cyber threats, and other national security concerns. As a government agency, the FBI values integrity, diversity, and excellence, providing its workforce with opportunities for continuous learning, advancement, and public service.
This particular role invites candidates with a background in STEM, especially in physical sciences such as biology, chemistry, physics, or related fields, to apply their scientific knowledge as FBI special agents. This career path goes beyond typical lab work; it is a chance to develop unique investigative skills that intersect technical expertise and law enforcement. Special agents with a physical sciences background contribute to identifying, analyzing, and solving complex cases that involve cyberattacks, terrorism, fraud, and other serious criminal offenses. The position requires using scientific methods and critical thinking to gather and interpret evidence, collaborate with various law enforcement agencies at federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international levels, and adapt quickly to an evolving threat landscape.
The role offers specialized training and real-world investigative experience, enhancing agents' biotechnology and laboratory analysis capabilities while providing access to advanced technologies. Continuous professional development is a hallmark of the position, preparing candidates to become leaders within the FBI and experts in their respective fields. The FBI emphasizes a supportive work environment that prioritizes the well-being and growth of its staff through a comprehensive benefits package. This full-time position carries a competitive salary range of $103,236 to $133,200 annually, commensurate with location and specific pay adjustments. The job also demands physical fitness and readiness for law enforcement duties, along with the ability to travel as needed to meet mission objectives.
By joining the FBI as a special agent with a STEM background, individuals embark on a meaningful career that blends scientific inquiry and public service. This opportunity enables candidates to protect the nation by leveraging technical expertise in high-stakes investigations, contributing to national safety, and advancing the boundaries of forensic and investigative science. It is a unique role suited for those who are ambitious, adaptable, and passionate about applying their scientific acumen to protect the United States.
