Hai Hospitality is a renowned multi-concept restaurant group headquartered in Austin, Texas, known for its innovative and award-winning culinary establishments including Uchi, Uchiko, Uchiba, and Loro. The group emphasizes a vibrant culture that promotes craft, continuing education, career advancement, and a fun working environment. Since its inception in 2003 by Chef Tyson Cole, Uchi has grown into a celebrated culinary destination offering a modern twist on Japanese cuisine, attracting a diverse clientele from Austin and visitors worldwide. The concept expanded to include Uchiko, which infuses bold flavors into traditional techniques, and Uchibā, which focuses on casual quick bites and Japanese-inspired cocktails in an intimate bar setting, all maintaining high standards of food quality, service, and design.
As the Uchi Nashville location prepares to open, Hai Hospitality is seeking experienced Sous and Executive Sous Chefs to join their dynamic team. This position offers the unique opportunity to train at one of the company's existing markets, such as Austin, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Denver, Scottsdale, or West Hollywood, with lodging provided during the training period. This approach ensures that candidates assimilate the company’s culinary standards, culture, and operational excellence before relocating permanently to Nashville.
The role of Sous/Executive Sous Chef at Uchi is critical to maintaining the high standards that define the brand. Candidates will be entrusted with leading and mentoring a team of culinary professionals, driving continuous development, and managing all aspects of the kitchen operations in a fast-paced, high-volume, scratch kitchen environment. The position requires a passionate and collaborative individual who loves food and innovation, with a deep commitment to creating exceptional hospitality experiences. Key responsibilities include motivating and developing the culinary team, ensuring operational excellence by overseeing all kitchen stations, assisting in food preparation, managing inventory, scheduling, and handling various administrative duties.
This role is ideally suited for individuals who thrive under pressure, possess a strong work ethic, and embrace a team-oriented leadership style that celebrates achievements and fosters growth. Uchi Restaurants culture nurtures professional development and promotes from within, offering long-term career advancement opportunities. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and accident insurance options, mental health support through an Employee Assistance Program, an employer-matched 401(k) plan, dining discounts, family contributions toward medical premiums, maternity and paternity leave, and paid vacation.
Physical demands of the role include the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work in various temperature conditions, and safely operate kitchen equipment. Candidates must be effective communicators able to uphold safety standards and maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment.
Hai Hospitality celebrates diversity and inclusion and is committed to creating a work atmosphere that is welcoming to all employees. Joining Hai means being part of a community that takes pride in its craft, creativity, and commitment to hospitality. The Sous/Executive Sous Chef position offers an exciting opportunity to grow professionally while contributing to the success and continued evolution of a respected and innovative restaurant group.
