Job Description

DIG is a vibrant and community-focused restaurant known for its commitment to scratch-based cooking and culinary excellence. Situated in a lively neighborhood, DIG is dedicated to creating exceptional dining experiences by bringing together diverse ingredients, innovative recipes, and a passionate team. As a company, DIG prioritizes inclusivity and cultural diversity, maintaining an environment where employees and guests alike feel valued and respected. With a strong dedication to sustainability, food safety, and responsible sourcing, DIG continually strives to enhance its cuisine and service standards while fostering a supportive workplace for its staff. The Sous Chef role at DIG is a pivotal position that supports the leadership team in driving culinary and hospitality excellence within the kitchen. This role is hourly and offers a competitive wage ranging from $18 to $21 per hour, depending on experience, supplemented by $2 to $3 per hour in tips and additional benefits. The Sous Chef works directly under Restaurant Shift Leaders and Chef de Cuisine to maintain high standards in food preparation, service, and safety while providing leadership and mentorship to Chefs-In-Training. The Sous Chef will master every station in the kitchen, ensuring recipes and procedures align with DIG's standards, and will take an active part in training staff to elevate the overall performance of the restaurant. Being a vital member of the culinary team, the Sous Chef will manage various kitchen operations, including food inventory, prep lists, waste logs, and ordering supplies. This role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to lead during busy shifts, delegating tasks effectively and ensuring smooth shift transitions through diligent communication and checklist use. The Sous Chef also interacts with guests by troubleshooting concerns and ensuring that food presentation and order accuracy meet DIG’s high standards. Beyond the technical culinary skills, the Sous Chef acts as a role model for team members, demonstrating professionalism, workplace maturity, and adherence to the company’s anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies. At DIG, the Sous Chef is not only a kitchen leader but also a key contributor to the inclusive culture and team building efforts, including interview shadowing, preshift leadership, and participating in the Chef’s table agenda. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about growing in a culinary career while working in a supportive, dynamic, and team-oriented environment with opportunities for long-term development and advancement within DIG.
