The Sous Chef position at Snow City Cafe plays a pivotal role as the direct deputy to the Executive Chef, acting as a key leader within the kitchen brigade. This role involves motivating and supporting culinary staff to deliver simple yet exciting dishes that exceed guest expectations. The Sous Chef manages specific kitchen operations assigned by the Executive Chef, helping maintain high food quality, consistency, and smooth operational flow. The individual in this role is entrusted with developing staff to excel in their roles while managing food costs and labor expenses responsibly. The Sous Chef is also instrumental in ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, including allergy protocols, and oversees inventory management and scheduling with the Executive Chef. Through leadership by example and effective team coaching, the Sous Chef contributes significantly to upholding the restaurant's culinary standards and fostering a positive work atmosphere.

This full-time position requires a professional with a minimum of three years of back-of-house restaurant experience; management experience is preferred. Candidates should have a strong command of kitchen operations, budgeting, and staff training while being adept in computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Google Drive. The ideal candidate will hold a current Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card or SERVSAFE certification and be proficient in English communication. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have at least three years of restaurant experience in back of house
  • Management experience preferred
  • Must have current Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card or SERVSAFE certification
  • Must be able to communicate, write, and understand English
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Drive, and internet navigation

Job Duties

  • Assist with the hiring process including interviews, reference checks, and new employee orientation
  • Ensure proper training for all back-of-house employees and provide support when needed
  • Document all staff and operations issues and follow up on prior shift concerns
  • Perform all opening and closing kitchen duties and take ownership of kitchen operations
  • Lead back-of-house coaching, discipline, and provide positive feedback to staff
  • Collaborate with management team to maintain high food quality and consistency
  • Manage daily, weekly, and ongoing side work as well as supervise deep cleaning checklists
  • Monitor labor costs by phasing employees appropriately and assist with scheduling
  • Oversee food cost, waste tracking, and budget control
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of menu items, ingredients, cooking methods, and presentation
  • Collaborate on developing and executing Fresh Sheet specials
  • Conduct accurate bi-weekly inventory counts
  • Manage food and beverage ordering procedures and maintain appropriate inventory levels
