The Sous Chef position at MorningStar Senior Living is a full-time opportunity that plays a critical role in delivering nutritious and appetizing meals to senior residents. With a pay range of $28.00 to $32.00 per hour, this non-exempt role works from 11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., with scheduled working days to be discussed during the community interview process. The Sous Chef is entrusted with the responsibility of preparing and cooking a wide variety of foods in large quantities, adhering to special dietary needs, seasoning preferences, cooking times, and temperature controls. The role demands expertise in estimating food quantities to limit waste and creatively utilizing leftovers while ensuring meals look appealing and meet the nutritional requirements of the community.
This role also includes the professional challenge and growth opportunity of stepping into the Executive Chef's responsibilities in their absence. These duties encompass menu planning and writing, scheduling, product ordering, and supervisory tasks over multiple kitchens and a sizable team, which may include up to 45 cooks, dishwashers, apprentices, and front-of-house serving staff. The Sous Chef must be well-versed in maintaining safety and sanitation standards in compliance with county and state regulations to protect the health and well-being of residents.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma preferred
- Ability to read and write English
- Previous experience in dietary department preferred
- Ability to prepare and cook large quantities of food
- Knowledge of special diets and cooking requirements
- Ability to follow safety and sanitation regulations
- Capable of supervising kitchen staff and managing kitchen operations
- Able to work scheduled shifts including 11:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Prepare, cook, season, and serve nutritious and balanced meals including meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, fruit, soups, salads, desserts, breads, and pastries
- Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
- Estimate quantities of food required to limit waste and utilize leftovers
- Supervise multiple kitchen operations and coordinate with up to 45 team members including cooks, dishwashers, apprentices, and serving staff
- Take on Executive Chef duties in their absence including menu planning, scheduling, and product ordering
- Monitor food preparation and storage to ensure county and state regulations are met
- Maintain high standards of meal presentation and resident satisfaction
