The role of Sous Chef at Chartwells K12 is designed for an inspirational, kid-focused culinary leader who will spearhead the food service programs within the KIPP Texas Public Schools in Houston, Texas. This position is critical in ensuring that meals served are of high quality, nutritious, and appealing to a diverse student body. Reporting directly to the Director of Dining Services, the Sous Chef will lead culinary operations with hands-on engagement, fostering teamwork among frontline staff while maintaining rigorous standards in food safety, consistency, and execution. The role emphasizes creativity, initiative, and ownership, encouraging the development and implementation of innovative food programs that enhance student dining experiences.

The Sous Chef will also play a vital role in managing food costs and inventory, ensuring efficiency and accountability. Job Requirements
- Five years of related culinary experience including one year at the management level
- Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care or related food service operations
- Knowledge of food and industry trends focusing on quality, production, sanitation, safety, food cost controls and presentation
- Ability to set up and distribute production sheets
- Supervisory, leadership, training, management and coaching skills
- ServSafe or Department of Health Certification preferred
- Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products including Excel
- Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts preferred

Job Duties
- Assist in coordinating and participating in the preparation and cooking of various food items
- Assist with planning and creating menus
- Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary team
- Assist with managing cost controls and controlling expenditure
- Perform other duties as assigned
