The Sous Chef position at Unidine is integral to the successful operation of the kitchen. This role involves assisting the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking food, managing kitchen operations in their absence, and ensuring that all food service associates perform efficiently. The position offers a varied schedule, including rotating weekends and holidays, with work hours typically from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm, which may fluctuate based on business needs. Candidates are preferred to have prior experience in senior living or restaurant kitchen environments, ensuring familiarity with food safety standards, menu preparation, and team management.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in senior living or restaurant kitchen environment preferred
- Ability to work full time or part time schedules including rotating weekends and holidays
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper food handling procedures
- Capacity to stand for extended periods and perform physical kitchen tasks
- Effective communication skills to interact with customers and team members
Job Qualifications
- Prior senior living or restaurant kitchen experience preferred
- Ability to supervise and coordinate kitchen staff efficiently
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules including rotating weekends and holidays
- Culinary degree or relevant certification is a plus
Job Duties
- Help executive chef prepare and cook foods
- Coordinate activities of cooks and other food-service associates
- Assume responsibility for kitchen and food-service associates in the absence of executive chef
- Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and production standards
- Supervise hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participation in reviews, and recommending disciplinary action
- Store food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
- Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
- Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
- Clean workstation thoroughly before leaving area
- Keep display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service to comply with sanitation, safety, production and merchandising requirements
- Interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
- Relay relevant information directly to supervisor
- Demonstrate complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explain them to associates and customers
- Keep up with peak production and service hours
- Monitor inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
- Track product production, consumption and waste
- Inform supervisor when supplies or product are low
- Perform other duties as assigned
