Their approach is rooted in the belief that a great meal can contribute significantly to residents' health, happiness, and overall well-being. The company operates in retirement communities, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, and other senior living environments across the nation. It prides itself on fostering a positive work culture that values teamwork, respect, and the continuous development of its employees.
Morrison Living is currently seeking a full-time Sous Chef to join their team at Pickersgill Retirement Community located at 615 Chestnut Avenue, Towson, Maryland. This role offers a competitive fixed pay rate of $30.00 per hour and a full-time schedule with rotating shifts from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm and 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, including weekends. The exact days will vary with further details provided during the interview process.
The Sous Chef position is a vital role within the culinary team, acting as the right hand to the Executive Chef. The individual will assist in preparing and cooking food, ensuring that all dishes meet the high standards of quality, presentation, and taste expected by Morrison Living. The Sous Chef also manages and coordinates the activities of other kitchen and food-service staff, stepping in as the person in charge during the Executive Chef's absence. This position demands a strong background in culinary management, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
Beyond cooking, the Sous Chef will be responsible for supervising hourly food service associates. This includes participating in the hiring process through interviews, scheduling staff, managing payroll, conducting training sessions, providing counseling, participating in performance reviews, and recommending disciplinary actions when necessary. Maintaining strict adherence to food safety and sanitation protocols is a key part of the role, ensuring all food is stored correctly and prepared hygienically according to corporate, state, and federal regulations.
The Sous Chef is also expected to maintain cleanliness in the kitchen environment and utensil areas, keep display equipment free of debris during meal service, and engage with customers effectively to address any complaints in a professional and service-oriented manner. Knowledge of daily menu items is essential to assist and educate both kitchen staff and customers. Keeping track of inventory, monitoring product deliveries, and managing food production to minimize waste are additional responsibilities.
