The company is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join their team at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, IN. This role is essential for planning and directing food preparation activities, ensuring quality and timeliness in every service. The Sous Chef will supervise kitchen staff, train team members, and handle key administrative duties necessary to maintain smooth kitchen operations. This position is ideal for culinary professionals who are detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about providing excellent dining experiences in an academic setting that values innovation and community. As Sous Chef, your core responsibilities will include managing food production timing so that all food items are ready at the exact time of service, supervising and training kitchen staff to uphold high standards, and reading and understanding function sheets which outline menus and the timing of various culinary functions. You will also produce and maintain prep sheets and duty rosters to ensure effective workforce management while utilizing batch cooking techniques to optimize production and minimize waste. Additionally, you will oversee the proper opening and closing of kitchen operations when required by your work shift.

To succeed in this role, candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent as a minimum educational qualification, with a Culinary Arts degree preferred. Candidates are expected to bring 1 to 3 years of cooking experience, alongside supervisory experience which is considered an advantage. Certifications like ServSafe and First Aid training are also required given the adherence to food safety and workplace health standards.
