Job Description

Creative Dining Services at Auto Owners in Lansing, Michigan, is a well-established foodservice provider dedicated to delivering exceptional culinary experiences within corporate and institutional settings. This full-time Sous Chef role is an integral part of the culinary team at Creative Dining Services. Operating Monday through Friday with a 40-hour workweek, the Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef to support the daily operations of the kitchen. This position demands a blend of culinary expertise, leadership, and organizational skills to maintain high standards of food quality and service delivery. The Sous Chef will oversee the food preparation process, manage kitchen staff, and assist in menu planning and inventory control. They are also responsible for enforcing compliance with health and safety regulations, ensuring the kitchen maintains impeccable hygiene and sanitation standards.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in fostering a productive and inspiring kitchen environment.   • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a professional kitchen
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety, and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role in a professional kitchen
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety, and sanitation standards
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Culinary degree or certification from an accredited institution
  • Experience with inventory management and cost control software
  • Knowledge of diverse cuisines and menu development
  • Certification in food safety such as ServSafe
  • Previous experience in a high-volume or fine dining establishment

Job Duties

  • Assist the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations and food preparation
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of kitchen staff to ensure timely and quality food production
  • Maintain inventory levels, order supplies, and manage food cost controls
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and hygiene standards in the kitchen
  • Contribute to menu development and recipe standardization to maintain consistency
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to develop their culinary skills and knowledge
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance needs to prevent disruptions
  • Manage kitchen workflow during service to ensure efficient and smooth operations
