We are currently hiring full-time Sous Chefs to join the campus dining team at UMBC, located at 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD. This position offers an hourly wage range of $22 to $25 and includes a full-time schedule from Sunday through Saturday, 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm, with additional details provided during the interview process. This role is key in supporting the Executive Chef and ensuring that food preparation and kitchen operations run smoothly and efficiently. The Sous Chef will be responsible for cooking foods according to approved recipes and production standards, supervising hourly food service associates, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety and sanitation. The role requires a person who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage kitchen staff effectively, and maintain excellent customer service standards at all times.
The position involves overseeing food storage, inventory, and quality, ensuring proper food handling and presentation, and cleaning and maintaining equipment and workstations. The Sous Chef also resolves customer complaints in a professional and friendly manner and supports the team to meet deadlines during peak production and service hours. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior cooking and supervisory experience preferred
- Availability to work full-time schedule Sunday through Saturday, 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with kitchen work
- Ability to follow safety and sanitation procedures
- Strong team player with leadership skills

Job Duties
- Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and production standards
- Ensure all deadlines are met based on production orders
- Supervise hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, and performance reviews
- Store food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
- Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures
- Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils
- Clean workstation thoroughly before leaving area
- Keep display equipment clean during meal service
- Interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
- Relay relevant information to supervisor
- Demonstrate understanding of daily menu items and explain them accurately to associates and customers
- Monitor inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
- Track product production, consumption, and waste
- Inform supervisor when supplies or products are low
- Perform other duties as assigned
