The role of Sous Chef at Carpenter Hotel offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic culinary team dedicated to delivering outstanding dining experiences. The Sous Chef will play a critical role in managing kitchen operations, including directing, preparing, and executing all menu items with precision and creativity. This position involves planning and pricing menus, ordering supplies, monitoring inventory, and maintaining accurate records and accounts. Ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning of kitchen equipment and facilities is also paramount.
Beyond culinary expertise, the Sous Chef must exemplify excellent communication skills and conflict resolution abilities. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience
- Experience with inventory controls
- Experience scheduling a staff of 15 or more
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills

Job Duties
- Collaborate with other personnel to plan and develop recipes and menus considering seasonal ingredient availability and guest volume
- Plan, direct, and supervise food preparation, purchasing, and cooking activities
- Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure standards and arrange equipment purchases and repairs
- Check quality of raw and cooked food products to meet standards
- Monitor sanitation practices to ensure compliance with regulations
- Record production and operational data accurately
- Estimate amounts and costs of supplies and order or requisition food and supplies for efficient operation
- Check quantity and quality of received products
- Conduct accurate inventory according to standards
- Prepare and cook foods regularly or for special functions
- Perform personnel actions such as hiring and firing staff
- Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and kitchen workers
- Instruct staff in food preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation
- Determine production schedules and staffing to ensure timely service delivery
- Perform other tasks as directed to meet operational needs and exceed customer expectations
