The Sous Chef/Line Cook position plays a vital role within this respected organization. Reporting directly to the Culinary Director, the Sous Chef/Line Cook helps ensure the seamless operation of the dietary department, balancing both leadership and hands-on culinary tasks. This position focuses extensively on maintaining the highest quality of customer service and food preparation standards for residents, ensuring their satisfaction and well-being. Responsibilities include assisting with staff orientation and training, enforcing hygiene and sanitation protocols, overseeing food handling practices, and ensuring proper use of all dietary equipment. The Sous Chef/Line Cook also monitors the dining room during meal times to directly engage with residents and address any concerns or compliments.
Working closely with the Executive Director and Lifestyle Director, the Sous Chef/Line Cook supports the planning and logistics for special dining events, contributing to an enriching dining experience that extends beyond daily meals. Regulatory compliance and safety standards are key components, requiring the Sous Chef/Line Cook to implement emergency procedures and uphold all sanitation and food safety practices, including maintaining Serve Safe Certification. The role demands a proactive approach to facility upkeep by noting and communicating areas needing repair.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Serve Safe Certification or willingness to obtain
- Good communication skills
- Ability to follow safety and hygiene protocols
Job Qualifications
- Experience in food service or culinary arts
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to supervise and train kitchen staff

- Serve Safe Certification or willingness to obtain

Job Duties
- Ensure the highest quality of customer service is available for our residents
- Assists the Culinary Director with proper orientation and training of new staff
- Verifying staff are in proper uniforms daily
- Responsible for knowing all information in the employee-handbook
- Responsible for maintaining proper/hygienic food handling techniques and the overall sanitation requirements of a food service area and the personnel
- Responsible for walking through the dining room during meals communicating with residents regarding satisfaction
- Responsible for setting up food and supplies for special events in coordination with the building Executive Director and Lifestyle Director
- Responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in dining room areas
- Responsible for overseeing the proper use of all dietary equipment
- Responsible for carrying out any emergency procedures required during shift
- Notes and reports areas or articles in need of repair
- Engage in prospective resident visits
- Maintain regulatory compliance where applicable
- Other duties as assigned by Culinary Director or Executive Director
- All Assistant Cooks must obtain and maintain a Serve Safe Certification
