The Sous Chef role at Meridian Senior Living is a pivotal position within the dining services team, offering the opportunity to significantly impact the quality of culinary experiences for residents. Meridian Senior Living seeks a Sous Chef who is capable of multitasking effectively, managing priorities, and communicating efficiently in English. Serve Safe certification is mandatory, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The position operates Sunday through Thursday, offering a consistent work schedule. Beyond the kitchen, the Sous Chef collaborates with the Dining Services Director on ordering supplies and maintaining inventory. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions
  • Two to three years experience in hotel, restaurant, or club with fine dining preferred
  • Culinary education and supervisory background desirable
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
  • Some knowledge of nutrition and diet
  • Serve Safe certification
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with waitstaff and servers
  • Excellent interpersonal and social skills to work effectively with residents, families, visitors, peers, supervisors, and outside contacts

Job Duties

  • Ensure proper preparation of planned menu in absence of Executive Chef
  • Assist in supervision of kitchen employees while maintaining a positive, courteous work environment
  • Plan and organize work to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
  • Manage multiple priorities and coordinate with waitstaff and servers
  • Assist with inventory orders and help Dining Services Director
  • Maintain knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, visitors, peers, and supervisors
