The role of the Sous Chef at Hyatt is essential to maintaining the culinary excellence for which the hotel brand is known. This position involves managing a specific kitchen department and working closely with the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef to create, implement, and uphold the highest quality standards in food preparation and presentation. The Sous Chef’s influence extends beyond culinary skill; they serve as a pivotal leader and liaison within the culinary team and across other hotel departments, ensuring collaboration and smooth operation to elevate the guest experience. In situations where senior chefs are not available, the Sous Chef may be responsible for overseeing the entire culinary operation, demonstrating leadership and operational expertise. Key responsibilities include supervising the preparation and cooking of food, developing creative menu items aligned with Hyatt’s brand standards, planning and coordinating special events, and managing hourly kitchen staff through scheduling, training, coaching, and evaluation.

This position demands a balance of culinary proficiency, managerial capabilities, and passionate guest service. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of kitchen operations, a strong commitment to food safety and sanitation, and the ability to inspire and develop team members. Proficiency in general computer skills for managing operational aspects like payroll and inventory is necessary. Job Qualifications

  • Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner
  • Strong training and communication skills
  • Culinary education and/or on the job training, hotel experience preferred
  • Geographic and schedule flexibility preferred

Job Duties

  • Support senior leadership by developing and assuming basic management responsibilities
  • Assume the role of liaison between all departments within the culinary division and all other hotel departments
  • Supervise the preparation and cooking of various food items
  • Develop and implement creative menu items that adhere to Hyatt brand standards
  • Plan, coordinate and implement special events and holiday functions
  • Manage hourly kitchen employees through scheduling, payroll, training, coaching, evaluating and hiring
  • Lead and coach the team towards achieving exceptional guest service and employee satisfaction results
  • Monitor food production, ordering, cost, and quality and consistency on a daily basis
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen facilities and equipment
