The Sous Chef role at Creative Dining Services is a pivotal culinary and leadership position that requires a dynamic professional to oversee and direct food preparation operations in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment. The individual in this position will be responsible for planning and timing food production to ensure all dishes are ready at the appropriate time of service. The Sous Chef will supervise, train, and manage kitchen staff, ensuring that the team works efficiently and effectively to meet demand. This role involves the application of administrative skills, such as producing and maintaining prep sheets and duty rosters, utilizing batch cooking techniques, and managing kitchen operations through online measuring, recipe, and purchase systems.
Safety and sanitation are paramount in this role. The Sous Chef must enforce strict adherence to food safety guidelines, proper food storage, accurate labeling and dating of items, and the maintenance of production and temperature logs. Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment is essential, including managing spills quickly, assuring the use of protective gear, and ensuring all kitchen equipment is functioning correctly. The role requires close communication with the Executive Chef regarding kitchen needs and issues, timely reporting of equipment malfunction, and compliance with all health department and OSHA regulations.
Physical demands include working in various kitchen temperatures, moving inventory and equipment, and occasionally working extended hours during mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be capable of lifting and moving up to 25 pounds. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 - 3 years cooking experience
- ServSafe Certification
- ability to work AM or PM shifts including weekends and holidays
- ability to lift and move 25 lbs
- good communication skills
- physical ability to perform kitchen duties
- willingness to work under pressure
Job Qualifications

- Time food production such that all food is ready at the time of service
