We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Sous Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, overseeing the performance and development of all hourly kitchen staff. This role requires a strong culinary professional with excellent leadership skills, the ability to maintain high standards of food quality, and a commitment to operational excellence. The Sous Chef ensures that the kitchen is not only staffed appropriately but also operates efficiently while upholding the restaurant's established systems, procedures, philosophies, and culture.

The ideal candidate will be a focused and hardworking individual, capable of organizing and leading a team with passion and precision. Job Requirements

  • Previous experience as a sous chef, kitchen manager or a current nyajoes employee
  • Extensive food knowledge and the ability to remember and recall ingredients and recipes
  • Great leadership skills
  • Ability to coordinate and train team members
  • Exhibits a neat, clean and professional image at all times
  • Genuinely hospitable and polite to our guests and team members
  • Sense of urgency
  • Attention to detail/organized
  • Able to work while standing for 10 plus hours a day
  • Dependable, trustworthy
  • Ability to work all stations in the kitchen (grill, saute, pantry, pizza, fry and expo)
  • Team player

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Ensuring that our kitchen is fully and appropriately staffed at all times
  • Interviews, trains, counsels, and coaches staff
  • Ensures all training materials, development and schedules are being followed
  • Clearly communicating with all team members
  • Ensures a harassment-free environment for all team members
  • Manages and makes adjustments to labor on a shift-to-shift basis while ensuring we don't harm the guest experience
  • Ensure line checks and production are both completed in compliance with NYAJoe's systems and standards
  • Maintaining operational excellence so our kitchen is running efficiently and effectively
  • Ensuring that all laws, regulations, and guidelines are being followed
  • Creating a restaurant atmosphere that both patrons and employees enjoy
  • Various other tasks as needed
