Special events are an integral part of their operations, requiring all chefs to be flexible and available to contribute their culinary skills during these important occasions.

This position is for a Chef who assists the Executive Chef in managing daily kitchen operations. The role involves preparing, seasoning, and cooking dishes while also stepping up to supervise kitchen staff and operations in the absence of the Executive Chef. Key responsibilities include managing kitchen stock effectively, ensuring food rotation follows the first-in, first-out principle, and maintaining quality assurance for all food products. The Chef will also aid with menu preparation, oversee food presentation, and ensure the kitchen meets and exceeds health and cleanliness standards. This role requires excellent coordination, active listening, critical thinking, and problem sensitivity skills to address any operational issues proactively. The candidate must be able to communicate clearly with staff and management and maintain professional relationships with vendors and clients. The role also involves hands-on work using a variety of commercial kitchen equipment and requires a high level of physical stamina, including standing and walking for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and working efficiently under pressure. Compliance with all safety and scheduling protocols set by management is essential. The position requires availability for up to three special events per semester and adherence to specific dress codes while on duty and traveling. Education requirements include 1-2 years of line cook experience and the acquisition and maintenance of Serv Safe Certification. This role is ideal for a dedicated culinary professional eager to enhance their managerial skills and contribute to a dynamic kitchen team.

Job Qualifications

  • Serv Safe Certification within first available class

  • Ability to stay calm and work efficiently under pressure

Job Duties

  • Ensures the overall cleanliness of kitchens meets and exceeds GHC health and equipment cleaning standards
  • Performs periodic and regular inspections of kitchen to observe quality of food preparation and service
  • Leads kitchen team in chef's absence
  • Follows proper training manual procedures when it comes to equipment item requests
  • Provides guidance to junior kitchen staff members
  • Oversees and organize kitchen stock and ingredients when Exec isn’t present
  • Ensures a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verify all food products are properly dated and organized for quality assurance
