Job Description
NAMI LAKE NONA is an exclusive dining establishment located within the Lake Nona Wave Hotel, adjacent to the renowned Lake Nona Sculpture Garden, which showcases one of the world's largest private art collections. As a distinctive fixture in this vibrant Orlando area, Nami offers a blend of artistic ambiance and gourmet experience. Known for its intimate setting, Nami features a unique 10-seat omakase counter that delivers a modern twist on the traditional chef-curated Japanese dining experience. This sophisticated approach marries the artistry of fine dining with a playful interpretation of Japanese ingredients, flavors, and techniques.
Beyond the omakase counter, guests can enjoy an energetic cocktail bar and an elegant dining room, both designed to complement the restaurant’s dynamic culinary offerings. The menus thoughtfully contrast precise cooking techniques with creative nuances, providing a multifaceted dining experience that appeals to food aficionados seeking innovation and quality. Nami’s commitment to excellence extends to its beverage program, focusing not only on cocktails but also on offering expertly curated wine pairings that enrich the flavors of the cuisine.
The Sommelier role at Nami Lake Nona is central to enhancing the guest experience by bringing expert wine knowledge and pairing recommendations that complement the restaurant’s sophisticated menu. This position involves creating and continuously updating a comprehensive wine list in collaboration with chefs and the Food and Beverage Manager. As a sommelier, you will play a critical advisory role to guests, recommending wine varieties tailored to personal tastes and food choices, thereby elevating the overall dining experience.
In addition to guest interaction, the role requires meticulous management of the wine cellar including stocking, proper storage, and ensuring wines are served at optimal temperatures and appropriate glassware is used. The sommelier also leads training sessions for wait staff, ensuring seamless service and knowledgeable recommendations across the front of house team. Negotiation with vendors to secure the best prices for wine selections is a key responsibility, alongside organizing engaging wine tastings or "wine of the month" events to attract and educate guests. Compliance with health and safety standards and legal requirements for serving alcohol is mandatory.
Ideal candidates will bring prior experience as a sommelier or in a similar wine steward role, preferably with certification. The role requires a passion for wine, excellent communication skills, adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to work harmoniously with both culinary and service teams. Opportunities at NAMI LAKE NONA are perfect for hospitality professionals eager to advance their career within an innovative, art-inspired dining environment that celebrates both taste and presentation. This is a full-time position requiring availability during business hours and the ability to meet local legal requirements for serving alcoholic beverages.
