Job Description

Moss New York, operated by Compass Group, offers a unique and sophisticated environment that blends Intelligent Leisure and Physical Culture within its two distinct venues. Upstairs, the clubhouse presents three floors dedicated to dining, cultural programming, and spaces thoughtfully designed for members to enjoy their free time with intention and style. This area features a traditional sit-down restaurant, a vinyl listening room, and other curated experiences catering to a wide range of tastes and personalities. Downstairs, Bedrock serves as the club's fitness and wellness destination, featuring two levels of premium gym facilities, aquatics, spa, and recovery services. Together, Moss and Bedrock provide a holistic lifestyle environment focusing on movement, restoration, and connection through a refined and community-centered approach.

Specifically, Moss New York is seeking an experienced and polished Sommelier to join their team. This role is essential in elevating the guest experience by providing expert wine service, carefully curated beverage guidance, and an impeccable tableside presence. The Sommelier will be integral in maintaining the establishment’s luxury hospitality standards, making sure every guest interaction and recommendation reflects their commitment to excellence. This position offers an hourly wage of $15.00 plus tips, with a training wage of $17.00 during the orientation period, classified as a non-exempt, hourly role eligible for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Job Requirements

  • minimum of 2+ years serving experience in a high-volume, service-driven restaurant environment
  • flexible availability for AM and PM shifts including weekends
  • strong teamwork and professionalism
  • hospitality-first mindset with excellent communication skills
  • genuine interest in seasonal, ingredient-driven cuisine
  • willingness to expand culinary and beverage knowledge
  • working knowledge of classic cocktails, foundational wine varietals and beer styles
  • ability to thrive in fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and composure

Job Qualifications

  • experience in upscale or chef-driven concepts preferred

  • strong teamwork and professionalism

  • willingness to expand culinary and beverage knowledge
  • working knowledge of classic cocktails, foundational wine varietals and beer styles
  • fine-dining or craft beverage experience a plus
  • ability to thrive in fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and composure

Job Duties

  • adhere to the hours of work/shift system
  • maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene and presentation
  • ensure mise-en-place in the restaurant and the cellar is performed to the required standard
  • perform daily, weekly and monthly cleaning duties
  • have a good knowledge of the menu and cheeses
  • advise and suggest wines for guest menu choices
  • up-sell where appropriate
  • have full wine knowledge of the Moss wine list
  • assist, guide and encourage the service team
  • have a good knowledge of the cellar and follow cellar management procedures
  • always smile and be attentive and professional
  • achieve guest satisfaction through high quality service
  • promptly inform the Wine Director of any guest complaints or comments
  • attend all menu and wine knowledge training and briefing sessions
  • understand the physical set-up and flow of service and follow correct service standards
  • be aware of food and beverage promotions
  • comply with laws and regulations regarding licensing, food safety, health and safety, fire equipment and training
  • establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments
  • comply with instructions from superiors and strive for highest standards
