Job Description

Amazon's Worldwide Grocery Stores-Tech (WWGST) team is a dynamic and innovative sector within the global e-commerce giant, Amazon. This team is focused on revolutionizing the grocery shopping experience by ensuring product data accuracy and reliability both online and in physical store locations, including Whole Foods Market. Amazon, a technology-driven company known for its customer-centric approach, leverages cutting-edge technologies including machine learning and automation to tackle complex problems in grocery product identification and catalog management. The WWGST team plays a critical role in this ecosystem by developing and maintaining software systems that process millions of grocery product records, ensuring information like product barcode accuracy, temperature, expiry date, and dimensions are precise to avoid spoilage, incorrect deliveries, and supply chain disruptions.

The Software Development Manager role within WWGST is a unique leadership position that involves guiding a team of talented engineers as they build and operate distributed systems and machine learning pipelines. The position demands a deep understanding of software development and machine learning infrastructure, with the responsibility to manage end-to-end technical strategies focused on improving catalog data accuracy across multiple international grocery marketplaces. This includes developing systems that integrate data from third-party sources, applying large language models (LLMs) for product attribute validation, conducting real-time data processing, and automating workflows that enhance grocery catalog intelligence.

In this role, the manager will own the technical vision for resolving product identity defects, collaborate closely with applied science teams to enhance ML models, and ensure operational excellence at scale across various AWS environments. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence both product direction and technical architecture in an entrepreneurial environment where innovation and high-velocity delivery are highly valued. The manager will foster a team culture that emphasizes ownership, mentorship, and technical development, directly impacting how groceries are sourced, enriched, and presented to millions of customers.

This position is full-time and based in Austin, Texas, with an annual salary range between $184,900 and $250,200 USD. Amazon provides a comprehensive compensation package including sign-on bonuses, restricted stock units (RSUs), and an extensive benefits program. Working at Amazon offers the chance to be part of a world-class team, developing solutions that have a real-world impact on grocery retail technology.

This is an exciting career opportunity for experienced software engineering leaders who are passionate about leveraging advanced technologies to solve tangible business problems. By leading engineering efforts at the intersection of machine learning and product data quality, the successful candidate will contribute to shaping the future of grocery shopping, ensuring customers receive accurate product information whether they shop online or in-store.
