Nestled in a picturesque setting, Schweitzer offers a unique blend of outdoor adventure and vibrant village life, making it a sought-after location for both visitors and employees. The resort prides itself on fostering a friendly and inclusive culture where teamwork, hard work, and enjoyment go hand in hand. As part of its thoughtful growth strategy, Schweitzer is committed to enhancing access to mountain activities and enriching the community experience for all who visit or work here.
This full-time, year-round position at Schweitzer comes with a competitive wage ranging from $50,000 to $55,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. The company also provides a comprehensive package of perks and benefits, including a free Alterra Mountain Resort pass, employee housing, discounted onsite childcare, accrued paid sick leave, a 401(k) match, and various great discounts and access to pro deals. Depending on employment status, employees may also qualify for full medical benefits, vacation time, and paid parental leave, reflecting Schweitzer’s commitment to work-life balance and employee well-being.
The role focuses on overseeing and actively participating in all food and beverage operations, specifically within the Sky House Cafeteria and Sky House Restaurant. This leadership position requires managing back-of-house activities such as food preparation, presentation, and service during special events, festivals, and weddings hosted at the resort. Serving as a working leader, the individual regularly engages with the culinary team, performing operational duties alongside staff to ensure high standards are consistently met. The position demands a strong commitment to maintaining a safe, productive, and efficient environment for both guests and team members.
Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Idaho State health codes and regulations, collaborating with the Vice President of Food & Beverage to develop budgets, menus, and culinary programs aligned with guest satisfaction and operational targets. The role involves hands-on oversight of daily kitchen functions, utilizing expertise across multiple cooking methods and baking techniques. Additionally, the position requires recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising culinary staff while managing timekeeping, performance, and professional development. This leader also oversees purchasing, inventory control, and cost management to meet financial objectives within established budgets.
Schweitzer values strong leadership and operational skills, along with a passion for culinary excellence and hospitality. The ability to work in a fast-paced, often demanding environment is essential, as is effective communication with team members, department leaders, and resort management. This role also requires the capacity to operate or learn to operate specialized resort equipment such as snowcats, necessitating successful completion of relevant safety screenings. With supervisory responsibility for up to 13 employees, the position plays a critical role in the resort’s culinary success and guest experience.
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, with a culinary school degree preferred. At least three years of general food and beverage experience and one year of supervisory experience are required. Strong technical skills with Microsoft Office, workday scheduling and evaluations, financial reporting, inventory control systems, and point-of-sale technology are highly valued. Physical stamina and advanced knife skills are necessary to perform the demanding tasks of the role, which include standing and walking for long hours and handling equipment and supplies that may weigh up to 50 pounds. A passion for mountain recreation and hospitality combined with proven leadership abilities will ensure success in this dynamic and rewarding position at Schweitzer Mountain Resort.
