The Shred-it Route Driver at WM plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional service to clients by handling all aspects of confidential document destruction. This position involves the safe operation of route vehicles, responsible transportation of materials, and managing the destruction process in compliance with all local and federal laws. Drivers are expected to perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensure all cargo is securely loaded, and maintain high security standards when handling sensitive documents. The role demands thorough documentation and route management using handheld devices to service customer accounts efficiently and accurately. Superior customer service skills are essential, as drivers must address inquiries and issues promptly, balancing the needs of the customer with company policies. Physical activity is a fundamental part of the job, including standing, walking, lifting, and working in various weather conditions. Job Duties
- Performs onsite/offsite document destruction of confidential information
- Performs pre/post-trip checks and driver check-in on assigned truck prior to leaving or closing for the day, reporting maintenance issues to Transportation/Dispatcher for follow-up
- Operates company equipment safely and efficiently to minimize risk of injury and equipment damage
- Complies with all local, provincial and federal laws governing driver fitness and hours of service, completing and maintaining DOT logs when applicable
- Maintains high level of security when emptying consoles and collection totes by ensuring all documents are retrieved and containers are securely locked
- Services accounts using a hand-held device, ensuring console containers are barcoded, locations are up to date, and the accuracy of type and quantity of consoles/containers
- Manages assigned routes ensuring customers’ confidential material is collected and serviced in a timely and accurate manner
- Handles and responds to all customer problems and inquiries expediently and in the best interest of both the customer and Shred-it
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
