The Food Service Department Manager plays a crucial leadership role within ShopRite, tasked with directing and overseeing all functions and activities related to food service operations within the store. Reporting to the General Store Manager, this position entails supervising associates while driving the department's goals focused on sales, profitability, customer experience, and associate engagement. The manager ensures that all activities are conducted in compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and health and safety standards. A key aspect of the role is to implement and maintain shop safety policies, manage food safety programs in accordance with HAACP standards, and maintain proper handling and storage of all food products.

Beyond regulatory compliance, the Food Service Department Manager is instrumental in creating a positive and efficient working environment. This involves greeting and assisting customers, promoting charitable initiatives, and supporting the onboarding and development of associates through training and feedback. The role emphasizes the importance of teamwork, enthusiasm, and loyalty among staff members, fostering a cooperative atmosphere that enhances the customer experience.

Additionally, the manager is responsible for the presentation and upkeep of the food service department, ensuring that all merchandise is properly stocked, rotated, and displayed in alignment with company standards. Compliance with local, state, and federal labor and food safety laws is strictly enforced, especially regarding associates under 18 years of age. Job Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English proficiently
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout scheduled shifts
  • Perform basic computer functions
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs and occasionally 60 lbs
  • Work with various food products and chemicals without allergic reactions
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures
  • Tolerance to dust and cleaning agents
  • Ability to climb ladders safely
  • Ability to engage with customers in a friendly manner
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience in food service or retail management
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and HAACP procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and inventory management
  • Physical ability to perform tasks including lifting and standing for long periods
  • Ability to train and develop associates
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of labor laws and regulatory compliance pertaining to food service operations
  • Commitment to company service priorities: safety, friendliness, presentation, and efficiency.

Job Duties

  • Perform all duties in compliance with company policies and government regulations
  • Supervise the food service department associates and ensure adherence to safety standards
  • Oversee food safety and handling procedures following HAACP guidelines
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Greet customers and provide prompt, courteous service
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and development of department associates
  • Manage inventory, product quality, pricing accuracy, and displays
  • Ensure department compliance with all regulatory standards
  • Lead and motivate associates to meet sales and customer experience goals
  • Monitor and maintain records including temperature logs and production sheets
  • Use relevant technology and applications for efficient department operations
  • Maintain proper staffing and scheduling to meet business needs
  • Assist with food preparation, catering, and special orders as needed
  • Enforce company dress code and safety policies consistently
  • Complete department training programs and maintain food safety certification
  • Lift and move merchandise as required
  • Communicate openly with all business partners and foster teamwork
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
