The Shift Leader Trainee role at ABC is designed as an entry point for individuals aiming to pursue a leadership position within the company. Trainees are hired and trained with the goal of moving into the Shift Leader role typically within 90 days. This role involves actively increasing wine and spirits sales by delivering a personalized, high-quality service experience to both guests and fellow team members. The position encompasses managerial duties such as opening and closing the store, assisting with overseeing store operations alongside the Store Manager and Assistant Manager, and serving as Manager on Duty in training.
The Shift Leader Trainee is responsible for greeting guests warmly, operating point-of-sale terminals accurately, and handling cash and other transactions in compliance with company policies. They will also stay current with product knowledge and required trainings to ensure a fully informed staff ready to meet guests' needs effectively. Moreover, trainees have a role in training and coaching other sales associates, maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the store, assisting with property upkeep, and managing inventory through unloading and merchandising deliveries.
This role requires physical stamina to handle continuous standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, bending, twisting, overhead lifting, and navigating between different store areas. Job Requirements
- Maintain regular and predictable onsite attendance
- Ability to stand and move about for extended periods up to 8 hours
- Frequent bending, lifting, and twisting to move product and assist with merchandising
- Frequent lifting or transporting up to 40 lbs throughout store and stockroom
- Occasional overhead lifting
- Occasional use of ladders and step stools to access merchandise
- Frequent movement between sales floor, stockroom, and exterior areas
- Frequent visual inspection of product labels, signage, and displays
- Frequent detection and response to visual cues such as Guest gestures, product placement, or safety hazards
- Occasional work in elevated locations and use of tools like ladders and stockroom equipment
- Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles during cleaning
- Occasional exposure to refrigerated temperatures when stocking or retrieving product
- Continuous exposure to moderate noise environments
Job Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 6 months of proven experience and/or training in a management or leadership role or at least 2 years of education from a college or technical school in Business Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs demand
Job Duties
- Serve as Manager on Duty in training, open and close the store, and assist Store Manager and Assistant Manager in overseeing store operations
- Greet each Guest upon entry and provide prompt, friendly, and engaging service throughout their visit
- Operate a Point-of-Sale terminal to process Guest transactions including accurate cash handling, accepting other forms of tender, and applying coupons or discounts per company procedures
- Stay current on required training, company policies, and product knowledge to ensure compliance and provide an informed, high-quality Guest experience
- Train, coach, and direct other sales associates when acting as Manager on Duty in training to promote exceptional customer service and ensure adherence to store operation procedures
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment throughout the store including sales floor, stockroom, Team Member areas, and customer-facing spaces
- Assist with daily property upkeep including sweeping, debris removal, collecting shopping carts, emptying trash, and routine restroom cleaning
- Provide wrapping service for ABC products, assemble custom gift baskets, and offer carryout service when needed
- Unload and put away weekly truck deliveries, merchandise and display product on shelves and in beer coolers per Operational Guidelines, restocking from stockrooms as needed
- Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by store management
