The Shift Leader role at Caribou Coffee is a dynamic and pivotal position that plays an integral part in the overall operation and success of the store. This leadership position works closely with the General Manager and Assistant General Manager to steer the store toward meeting its goals, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, product knowledge, customer service, and operational efficiency. Shift Leaders are responsible for guiding and engaging their team, ensuring that everyone understands their roles, the store’s objectives, and the importance of delivering memorable experiences for guests.

In this role, the Shift Leader masters the core duties of team members with enthusiasm and skill, embodying the company’s core values such as Support One Another, Make Fun Happen, Be Yourself, Take Ownership, and Serve With Love. The leader effectively communicates, delegates tasks, and handles multiple priorities during a shift while maintaining an inclusive and inspiring work environment. They take full ownership not only for their current shift but also for preparing the following shift, fostering continuity and a cohesive team dynamic.

The Shift Leader also acts as a coach and mentor, providing real-time feedback and development opportunities for team members, helping them grow professionally and personally. Administrative tasks including bank deposits, inventory management, and product ordering are also part of their responsibilities, which require integrity and attention to detail.

This position demands resilience under pressure and the ability to maintain a calm and joyful demeanor, even during critical moments. The Shift Leader is expected to be a subject matter expert in store operations and product knowledge, bringing curiosity, humility, and eagerness to learn and lead a diverse group of employees. As Manager on Duty, the Shift Leader holds decision-making responsibilities that directly affect the store’s success and guest satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of leadership, restaurant, retail or customer service experience required or properly trained and approved by Caribou Coffee to take responsibility as a shift leader
  • Ability to work at least one of the following: early mornings, evenings, some holidays and/or weekends
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Sees the needs of the team and guest and addresses situations before they become problematic
