This job opening is for the Shift Lead position at the newly launching Blank Street location in Los Angeles. This role is pivotal in establishing the store’s operational excellence and shaping its culture in a brand new market. Shift Leads are not just supervisors; they set the gold standard for every shift, managing everything from team performance to product quality, customer satisfaction, and smooth operations. This role demands a balance of people leadership, operational discipline, and a passion for delivering exceptional coffee and matcha experiences.

Shift Leads at Blank Street are the heartbeat of their locations, responsible for proactively leading the floors, coaching team members in real-time, and ensuring every customer interaction is outstanding. The ability to multitask under pressure in a fast-paced environment is essential, as is an eye for detail in drink preparation, hygiene, and store organization. Shift Leads foster a positive, inclusive environment where each team member feels valued and empowered to provide excellent hospitality.

In addition to overseeing operational aspects, Shift Leads collaborate closely with General Managers and training staff to onboard and develop new baristas. They also partner with marketing and operations teams to support store events and promotional activities that help expand the brand’s presence in LA. This position is full-time, offering approximately 30-40 hours per week mainly across 4-5 days including peak days such as weekends, aligning with the store’s business needs. The compensation is competitive at $24.00 per hour plus tips, accompanied by a comprehensive training and accreditation program designed to support continuous career growth within the company.

Job Requirements

  • 2+ years’ experience in a customer service leadership position, preferably in hospitality or coffee
  • 18+ years of age
  • Able to lift 25+ lbs, and to stand for long periods of time
  • Availability that meets the needs of our cafes including full-time 30-40 hours per week over 4-5 days, with ability to work 2 peak days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • Weekend and holiday availability preferred
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Willing to participate in a required training program in NYC
  • Willing to undergo a background check as per California Fair Chance Act

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in a customer service leadership position, preferably in hospitality or coffee
  • Strong people leadership skills
  • Friendly and passionate about hospitality
  • Detail oriented with a high bar for product quality, cleanliness, and organization
  • Operationally minded with ability to manage fast-paced shifts efficiently
  • Adaptable and solutions-oriented
  • Passionate about coffee and/or matcha
  • Inclusive team builder fostering positive, respectful environment

Job Duties

  • Lead the shift with clarity and confidence directing, coaching, and supporting the team while owning the floor
  • Train new team members alongside your General Manager and the Training Team
  • Continue to train others as we evolve to ensure we are achieving our standards across product quality, safety, and hospitality
  • Delight our customers with consistent, welcoming and engaging hospitality, taking the opportunity to turn every customer into a regular
  • Step in to handle customer or team issues in a calm, positive, and solutions-oriented way
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment upholding both Local Department of Health and Blank Street standards at all times
  • Be an integral part of our world class team using the best equipment, coffee, and matcha in the industry
  • Partner with our Operations and Marketing teams for events and promotions to expand our brand to new customers
  • Set your team up for success by mastering different company procedures such as cash handling, inventory, waste tracking, and opening and closing processes
