Job Description

Black Bear Diner Vallejo is a family-friendly, casual dining restaurant located in Vallejo, California. It is part of the Black Bear Diner chain known for serving hearty American comfort food in a rustic mountain lodge setting. The restaurant prides itself on providing a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where guests can enjoy classic dishes with a focus on quality and hospitality. With a commitment to exceptional customer service and a warm environment, Black Bear Diner has become a popular dining choice for families and communities seeking a homestyle dining experience.

As a Server at Black Bear Diner Vallejo, you will play a vital role in delivering an outstanding dining experience to every guest. Your primary responsibility will be to greet guests professionally and warmly, ensuring that each visitor feels valued and appreciated from the moment they walk in through the door to when they leave. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, attentiveness, and the ability to manage several tasks efficiently during busy meal periods.

Speed, accuracy, and a positive attitude are key components of this position. You will be expected to promptly approach guests within two minutes of seating, offering beverages such as coffee, orange juice for breakfast, and a variety of seasonal drinks, refreshing iced teas, and alcoholic beverages during lunch and dinner hours. Additionally, you will announce daily specials tailored to each meal period and take accurate food orders while communicating any unavailable items to the guests clearly to avoid any confusion.

Utilizing the Aloha Point of Sale system, you will enter orders with precision and coordinate closely with the kitchen staff to ensure special requests and modifications are conveyed effectively. Regular follow-ups with guests to offer beverage refills and updates on food preparation status are part of maintaining exceptional service standards, especially during peak times and unexpected kitchen delays.

In this role, maintaining cleanliness and organization at your workstation and throughout the dining area is essential. You will adhere to the restaurant's 'clean as you go' policy, keeping floors swept and vacuumed and ensuring all stations are tidy. Informing management promptly about equipment failures or supply shortages is critical to sustaining smooth operations.

You must be punctual, wear the prescribed uniform comprising black slacks, Black Bear Diner shirt, suspenders, apron, and name badge, and present yourself neatly at all times. Being a team player is fundamental, as server responsibilities extend beyond your station to supporting restaurant-wide functions such as food runs and station transitions, which must be communicated clearly with management.

Additional physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, handle trays and plates weighing up to nine pounds continuously, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed. Proficiency with order taking, whether handwritten or on a digital POS system, is necessary, along with maintaining a cheerful and courteous attitude throughout service.

Candidates must possess a current Food Handlers Certification and have a minimum of two years of server experience. Overtime work may be required occasionally, and breaks should be taken punctually to maintain workflow. This role offers a dynamic work environment where dedication to guest satisfaction and teamwork helps Black Bear Diner Vallejo continue its tradition of excellent service and homestyle dining.
