The Meetings and Events team within the Client and Employee Experience (CEE) division at Northwestern Mutual is seeking a Sr. Events Manager, Campus Events Management, to join their dynamic and talented group of event professionals. This role is pivotal in leading the design, planning, and execution of large-scale, live, and experiential events that align with the company’s brand and business objectives. Reporting to the Manager of Campus Event Management, the Sr. Events Manager will leverage their expertise in event management to create impactful and innovative event experiences that resonate with attendees and stakeholders alike.

The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset and a deep understanding of end-to-end event management, including contract negotiation, industry benchmarking, compliance with regulations such as ADA and risk mitigation, sustainability initiatives, and safety protocols. They will be responsible for translating complex business strategies into engaging and memorable events that elevate the brand, foster community, and drive measurable business outcomes. This role requires a strong collaborator capable of managing a broad range of stakeholders, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring seamless on-site execution. In addition, the Sr. Events Manager will oversee large budgets, negotiate vendor contracts, and ensure adherence to best practices and company policies.

This is a hybrid onsite role offering a competitive salary range from $81,280 to $121,920 annually, with geographic-specific pay structures for certain locations. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in event management, hospitality, business, marketing, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of event management experience
  • Proven ability to manage large budgets and negotiate complex contracts
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Experience with site selection, hotel contracting, and logistics
  • Proficiency with event management platforms such as Cvent
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Attention to detail and strong customer service orientation
  • Vendor management capabilities
  • Ability to train and mentor junior staff
  • Demonstrated ability to handle safety, compliance, and risk mitigation
  • Familiarity with digital and AI tools
  • Capability to prepare reports and post-event analyses

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Lead the planning and execution of large-scale live and experiential events
  • Manage and reconcile event budgets to optimize spend and ensure financial compliance
  • Develop end-to-end event plans including creative direction, spatial design, and attendee flow
  • Oversee master session scheduling, concurrent programming, and attendee journey mapping
  • Partner with venues and caterers to design inclusive and sustainable food and beverage programs
  • Ensure events comply with ADA standards, safety protocols, risk mitigation, and governance policies
  • Negotiate vendor contracts and manage vendor relationships throughout event lifecycle
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align event objectives with business goals
  • Co-lead live event execution and troubleshoot challenges in real time
  • Prepare presentations and conduct post-event analysis including ROI and attendee metrics
