Job Description
Hilti is a global leader in construction innovation, renowned for its commitment to improving the construction industry through cutting-edge technology and solutions. With over 34,000 employees across 120 countries, Hilti combines a family-owned company culture with the resources of a large international corporation. The company is dedicated to making construction better by empowering its employees to grow, innovate, and work collaboratively in an inclusive environment. Hilti values diversity and inclusion, continuously striving to foster an environment where every team member's voice is heard and respected. Through its purpose-driven approach, Hilti is not only a place for meaningful work but also a platform for making a lasting impact on the global construction sector.
The Senior Data Architect role at Hilti plays a crucial part in shaping the future of enterprise intelligence. This position provides technical leadership across the company's expansive data landscape, creating an enterprise data strategy that supports scalable, secure, and well-governed data platforms. These platforms are essential for powering analytics, AI/ML workloads, and intelligent applications that drive innovation and efficiency. The role bridges traditional data management techniques, such as database management systems, data modeling, warehousing, and governance, with modern cloud-native data engineering practices on AWS. You will architect comprehensive data pipelines utilizing cloud-native services including S3, Glue, Lake Formation, Redshift, Athena, EMR/Spark, and others.
A key aspect of this position is leading the design and implementation of data strategies that encompass storage formats, data security measures such as encryption and fine-grained authorization, and advanced AI/ML data foundations for platforms like Amazon Bedrock. The Senior Data Architect will also be responsible for innovating around Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures to enhance large language models' capabilities. This involves expertise with vector databases and ongoing system evaluation to optimize data quality and answer precision.
The role demands a deep understanding of both relational and NoSQL systems, including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB, with expertise in schema design, indexing, query optimization, replication, and disaster recovery. Integration across diverse applications using APIs and data contracts is vital, ensuring seamless data interchange between various business applications like SAP, Salesforce, and IoT telemetry sources.
Data governance, quality, observability, security, compliance, and risk management are also fundamental responsibilities. This includes enforcing data policies, lineage tracking, monitoring usage and costs, GDPR compliance, and creating secure patterns for handling AI and LLM model inputs and outputs. The Senior Data Architect will also provide leadership in architectural blueprinting, design reviews, mentoring junior team members, and communicating complex solutions clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
This position requires at least a decade of experience designing and delivering enterprise data solutions, a strong background in cloud platforms with production experience on AWS services, and demonstrated proficiency with AI/ML and RAG implementations. Candidates must have a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field and be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Hilti offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package, including generous paid time off for vacation, personal days, and community service, paid family leave, educational reimbursement, 401(k) matching, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. As part of the Hilti family, you will have the opportunity to influence industry-wide changes while enjoying a supportive, inclusive, and empowering workplace environment.
