The role of Sr. Cook at Corewell Health is an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals passionate about nutrition and food service in a healthcare environment. The Sr. Cook is responsible for menu development, preparation, and execution of hot and cold meals served in various settings such as restaurants, room service, and grab & go markets within the hospital system. This position requires leadership in food production, including training and supervising food prep staff to enhance their culinary skills and career growth. As a crucial member of the Nutrition Services department, the Sr. Cook ensures adherence to production schedules, monitors food safety and quality, and assists with inventory through preparation of purchase orders. The role demands creativity for developing new recipes and collaboration with supervisors to maintain operational excellence. The employment type is full-time, working 40 hours per week with evening shifts, including every other weekend, at the Blodgett Hospital location in Grand Rapids. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of relevant experience in related field
- CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager certification
- Preferred vocational/technical courses in food preparation
- Preferred 2 years of relevant experience food preparation in a health care facility
- Preferred 1 year of relevant supervisory experience
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of relevant experience in related field
- CRT-Accredited Food Protection Manager, CFP - ANSI National Accreditation Board ANSI National Accreditation Board 90 days
- Vocational/technical courses in food preparation
- 2 years of relevant experience food preparation in a health care facility
- 1 year of relevant experience supervisory
Job Duties
- Assumes total responsibility for all food production in absence of the Supervisor
- Organizes and directs the preparation of complex recipes
- Assists in planning and documenting menus for all areas of the Nutrition Services department
- Ensures daily production schedule is completed and adhered to
- Assists in training, orientation and evaluation of employees
- Prepares purchase order for the buyer, as appropriate
- Develops new recipes
- Assists supervisor in overseeing areas of operations assigned
- Monitors employees to ensure policies/procedures are being adhered to
- Addresses employees not following job requirements or proper policy/procedures
