The role of Dishwashing Attendant within the Douglass Dining and Auxiliary Operations department is a full-time position based at 735 Library Road, Rochester, NY. This position plays a critical role in maintaining high sanitation standards in the food service area during the UR Evening shift. The Dishwashing Attendant is responsible for cleaning equipment, utensils, pots, pans, and work areas, including floors and walls, to ensure the food service environment remains clean, safe, and compliant with health standards. This role requires the use of various cleaning equipment such as dishwashers, pot and pan washers, and other materials handling tools.

Employees in this role directly support food service operations by picking up used dishes, cleaning and sanitizing tableware by machine or by hand, and assisting with general helper duties such as replenishing supplies, transporting materials, and unpacking stock. The position demands physical stamina as it involves standing, walking short distances, lifting, reaching, and carrying various items throughout the workday. Working under the immediate supervision of an area supervisor, this role does not exercise supervisory responsibilities but contributes to the smooth operation of the dining services.

The pay range for this position is $18.38 to $24.94 per hour, aligned with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. This role is classified under the UR SEIU 023 H pay scale. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Pick up used dishes from counter areas and tables, prepare dishes for washing by scraping and pre-rinsing, wash silver, china, glasses, and pots and pans by machine or by hand
  • perform general helper duties including replenishing milk supply, transporting supplies and equipment, picking up dishes from tables as necessary, unpacking stock, and occasionally helping serve on the counter or other food service duties
  • maintain prescribed sanitation standards by cleaning machines and kitchen equipment, washing floors and walls, waxing floors, cleaning windows, and other general cleaning tasks
  • handle supplies in the food service department
  • perform other duties as directed
