The position available is a part-time Food Service Worker role within the Danforth Dining Department, under the Auxiliary Operations division. This role is integral to maintaining the operational efficiency and cleanliness of the dining facilities, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for both employees and patrons. Working approximately 32.5 hours per week, this position requires a reliable individual who is physically capable of performing tasks that contribute to the smooth running of the food service area. The compensation range is set between $18.38 and $24.94 per hour, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for this position.
As a Food Service Worker at the University of Rochester, the individual will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, pots and pans, and work areas including floors and walls. Duties also include the safe handling of supplies within the food service department. This role operates under the immediate supervision of the area supervisor, with no supervisory responsibilities over other employees. The position involves the use of dishwashers, pot and pan washers, and various cleaning and materials handling equipment.
Typical duties encompass picking up used dishes from counters and tables, preparing items for washing by scraping and pre-rinsing, and either washing by machine or by hand. The worker provides assistance in handling supplies and food by replenishing milk supplies, transporting equipment and materials, unpacking stock, and potentially helping with food service counter duties. Maintaining strict sanitation standards is a critical aspect of this position, including cleaning machines, kitchen equipment, floors, walls, and occasionally waxing floors and cleaning windows.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in food service or custodial work preferred
- Ability to operate dishwashing and cleaning equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to sanitation standards
- Ability to work part-time hours including rotating shifts as required
- Good communication skills
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks
Job Qualifications
- Ability to work compatibly in a food service atmosphere
- Physical ability to stand and walk short distances most of the working day
- Ability to reach for, lift, and carry various materials
- Ability to perform light and heavy cleaning
