The role of Armed Security Officer at CHRISTUS Health is a critical position responsible for maintaining the safety and security of hospital buildings, assets, and people. This full-time position requires the officer to be in uniform and armed at all times as a visible deterrent to criminal activity and a protector of patients, associates, and visitors. The officer actively patrols the assigned facilities and grounds, responds promptly to all emergency codes and disaster events, conducts preliminary investigations of incidents, and performs other related tasks as directed by supervisors or management. The job demands flexibility in working hours, with the possibility of rotating between facilities and traveling as required.

An Armed Security Officer at CHRISTUS must exhibit excellent communication skills, mental alertness, and the ability to make immediate decisions regarding laws, policies, and procedures. Proficiency with technology such as security dispatch systems, digital video recorders, paging systems, and electronic reporting is essential. The officer must be physically fit to handle tasks like restraining individuals, assisting nursing staff with patient lifting, and enduring long periods of walking and standing in various weather conditions. The officer must undergo multiple assessments and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. State-specific licensing, such as Texas Department of Public Safety certifications or special authorization letters in New Mexico and Louisiana, are mandatory for carrying weapons. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum two years of armed security experience preferred
  • Law enforcement experience preferred
  • Healthcare security experience preferred
  • Verbal de-escalation training must be completed within 60 days of hire
  • BLS required within 60 days of hire
  • Completed training for expandable baton, defensive tactics, firearms, weapon qualification, and retention before authorization to carry weapon
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment and post-offer assessments including MMPI-2, CPI, PPSSR, PEI, and clinical interview
  • Subject to random drug testing
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Must hold relevant state licenses or commissions for armed security
  • Must be physically fit to walk extensively, restrain individuals, and assist nursing staff with lifting
  • Able to handle stressful and potentially violent situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make immediate decisions regarding laws, policies, and procedures
  • Flexibility to work multiple shifts and travel between facilities

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum two years of armed security experience or honorable military service
  • Law enforcement experience preferred
  • Healthcare security experience preferred
  • Verbal de-escalation training within 60 days of hire
  • BLS certification within 60 days of hire
  • Proficiency with handgun, handcuffs, baton, and non-crisis intervention certification
  • Ability to use PC for electronic reporting
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Completion of all pre-employment and post-offer assessments including psychological evaluations
  • State-specific weapon authorization as applicable

Job Duties

  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
  • Conduct frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds as assigned
  • Identify and report trends related to security issues and recommend actions
  • Take initial information for incident reports using proper grammar and submit them timely
  • Respond promptly to all service requests relayed by various communication methods
  • Enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and state laws
  • Assist clinical and non-clinical associates with combative patients or visitors
