Job Description
Creature Coffee is a dynamic and innovative mobile specialty coffee catering service and micro-roastery originating from Austin, TX. Known for bringing exceptional cafe-quality coffee experiences directly to offices, weddings, and prestigious events, Creature Coffee embodies a culture of joyous vibes and specialty coffee excellence. With a team devoted to positive energy, intricate craftsmanship, and the thrill of fast-paced event environments, the company sets itself apart by seamlessly combining artistry with the love of people and coffee culture. Creature Coffee operates out of its headquarters in Tempe, AZ, while actively serving Phoenix and surrounding areas, making it a prominent player in Arizona's specialty coffee scene.
This opportunity is for a contractor position, designed as seasonal gig work, paying between $20 and $22 per hour plus shared tips. The role appeals to baristas who are excited by making coffee in a variety of locations, enjoying the diversity event work offers. The nature of the gig allows for flexibility, catering primarily to peak seasons such as spring (March through May), fall (September through November), and the bustling holiday period in early December. These peaks coincide with significant activities like Spring Training, college football, and holiday events, offering a seasonally rich experience. The scheduling is handled via Homebase, a tool allowing baristas to update their availability weekly, ensuring the work fits around their lifestyle and commitments.
The barista role at Creature Coffee goes beyond standard coffee preparation. It requires a dedication to hospitality excellence, with an emphasis on fostering engaging conversations, showcasing a deep understanding of specialty coffee science, and adapting proactively to varying event circumstances. The company prides itself on premium engagement with its guests, expecting its team members to inspire conversations that celebrate each person served, deliver with trusted expertise, and maintain composure in constantly changing setups.
Baristas are entrusted with turning any event space into a visually appealing and functional coffee bar while ensuring the quality of espresso and milk steaming is impeccable. Advanced latte art skills are essential, with tulip stacking being the baseline expectation, showcasing the artistic talent Creature Coffee values. Additionally, employees serve as brand ambassadors, balancing professional grooming with personal style within event dress codes. Operational intelligence is critical, as each event must be executed flawlessly, with meticulous adherence to detailed checklists and guidelines. The work demands both physical stamina and logistical savvy, including handling heavy equipment and managing transportation needs.
Joining Creature Coffee means becoming part of a vibrant, community-oriented team that values growth and continuous learning. The company supports its contractors through paid on-the-job training, opportunities to work at popular and exciting events, and access to unlimited specialty coffee during shifts. This position suits individuals who love the craft of coffee, cherish social interaction, and thrive in a flexible, event-driven work environment. Creature Coffee also prides itself on inclusivity and equal opportunity, actively seeking to reflect the diversity and creativity of the Phoenix community in its workforce.
