Job Description

The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District is a public agency dedicated to protecting the community from mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases through integrated pest management and control programs. Serving the Sacramento and Yolo Counties in California, the District focuses on reducing the risks associated with vector-borne diseases by providing comprehensive mosquito and vector management services, including surveillance, treatment, and public education. The agency collaborates with local government, property owners, and the community to ensure effective vector control practices to maintain a safe and healthy environment for residents. With a commitment to scientific knowledge and environmental stewardship, the District employs advanced techniques and adheres to all relevant regulations and health guidelines to safeguard public health.

The Seasonal Helper position is a temporary role within the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District, assigned to the Administration Office but with the potential to support various departments including Control Operations, Ecological Management, Fisheries, Laboratory, Public Information and Education, or Information Technology. This role involves providing essential administrative and clerical support to help the district operate effectively during peak seasons. The Seasonal Helper works under the direct supervision of the Administrative Manager and may be required to perform a variety of tasks depending on the department’s needs.

This position requires availability to work between 20 to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with the term starting in April and ending around September 30, 2026. The schedule and duration may be adjusted based on district needs. Seasonal Helpers assist with public communication, data entry using electronic devices like smartphones and tablets, document preparation, vehicle operation, and possibly field support that may expose them to infectious diseases related to mosquitoes and other vectors. The role involves both office-based work and potential field assignments, requiring physical activity and adaptability. This temporary role offers hourly pay between $22.00 to $24.00, with compensation determined upon hiring.

The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District emphasizes equal employment opportunity and strives to create an inclusive workplace free from discrimination. While seasonal employees do not receive medical or other employee benefits generally, they do earn sick leave per California law and are covered under workers compensation protections. The District maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace and mandates medical examinations for successful candidates.

The Seasonal Helper role provides valuable experience in public health and environmental vector control fields. Candidates will develop knowledge and skills in vector identification, pest management techniques, equipment operation, and effective communication with the public and other stakeholders. This opportunity is ideal for those seeking to contribute to community health, support public agency operations, and gain hands-on experience in vector control administration and field work during a defined seasonal period.
