Job Description
Marietta City Schools is a public school district located in Marietta, Georgia, dedicated to providing quality education and fostering a supportive learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds. The district prides itself on its commitment to academic excellence, innovative teaching practices, and community involvement. As part of its comprehensive educational approach, Marietta City Schools operates a Nutrition Services program to ensure students receive nutritious meals that support their physical health and academic performance. This program is vital in helping fuel the next generation by providing well-balanced, appealing meals during school hours.
Joining the Marietta City Schools Nutrition team as part of its School Nutrition / Cafeteria Services means becoming an integral part of this essential mission. The role is designed for individuals passionate about making a direct impact on student health by preparing and serving nutritious meals in a safe, welcoming environment. This position is part-time and on-demand, with shifts typically scheduled around school meal service periods, such as breakfast and lunch, ensuring flexibility for staff while meeting the operational needs of the district. The hourly wage for this role is $15, reflecting the value that Marietta City Schools places on its nutrition services employees.
The position involves a variety of important tasks centered around food preparation and service within the school setting. Before students arrive, team members prepare meals using standardized recipes and approved batch cooking techniques to guarantee consistency and compliance with nutritional guidelines. Setting up hot and cold food stations and ensuring all meal components, including plates, napkins, and condiments, are well-stocked helps maintain smooth and efficient service periods. Serving meals in accordance with portion control standards ensures every student receives a balanced and nutritious plate.
Beyond meal service, the role includes important responsibilities such as recording food temperatures and times on appropriate logs to comply with food safety standards and conducting accurate sales transactions including cash handling and entry into cafeteria systems. Keeping the kitchen clean and sanitary is vital to maintaining food safety and operational readiness, so team members also wash and sanitize dishes, kitchen equipment, and work areas after meal periods. Inventory duties such as receiving, unpacking, dating, storing, and rotating supplies ensure the kitchen operates without interruption and with fresh ingredients.
Successful candidates will find themselves part of a dedicated team where teamwork and communication are key. The job requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain a positive attitude, and adhere strictly to food safety and hygiene standards. Physical demands include routinely lifting up to 30 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working in varying temperatures, including near hot equipment and inside coolers. Adherence to dress code and personal hygiene standards is enforced to promote a professional and hygienic work environment.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of students in Marietta City Schools while enjoying the benefits of a flexible, part-time schedule and a supportive work culture. Employees have access to weekly pay, free online training for professional development, and health benefit coverage options available through Spur Staffing, which supports the Nutrition Services team. This is a chance to make a meaningful difference every day by fueling young minds and bodies to succeed academically and beyond.
