The role of a School Custodian at ABM is ideal for individuals entering or returning to the workforce with limited prior experience and education requirements. This position involves performing essential cleaning and maintenance duties within K-12 schools, colleges, or university campus environments to support a safe, sanitary, and welcoming setting for students, staff, and visitors. The School Custodian is responsible for general cleaning of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, stairways, and other designated areas. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, debris removal, spill cleanup, emptying trash, and applying appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment safely to protect floors and fixtures. The custodian also maintains furniture, fixtures, and surfaces by dusting, polishing, and wiping down tabletops and equipment in food areas. Seasonal outdoor tasks like raking leaves, snow removal, and lawn care might also be involved. Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • No experience required and on the job training provided
  • No high school diploma GED or college degree required

Job Qualifications

  • Prior customer service experience
  • One year of prior similar work experience

Job Duties

  • Clean and maintain assigned area which may include classrooms hallways restrooms locker rooms office and stairways
  • Sweep remove debris clean spills and mop floors in designated areas
  • Regularly check trash receptacles emptying as needed in all designated areas
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Notify lead cleaner or manager concerning the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with clients co-workers shift coordinators supervisors managers etc.
  • Collect consolidate and separate recycling into proper receptacles
